Have you ever tried doing gardening activity with your kids. Or you are worried about them messing with mud, soil, water, playing in muddy puddles getting them self dirty. Well all theses are happy part of childhood day. Let them enjoy it.

There are so many health benefits of micro greens. And thousand of recipes are there about how to cook and use them, well i m not focusing on them. This post is all about to how to grow micro greens at our home with kids easy with less available items.

The joy or pleasure of watching a seed germinating and the leaves shooting up and roots growing down, is something amazing. The process of nurturing a plant is awesome feel. Kids will thoroughly enjoy it. More over they will be very eager to note the changes happening.

It was my kids responsibility to water it and place it in the sun, It all gives the the responsibility of taking care of things around them.

You can also prepare a table or chart and ask your kid to note down the change by day wise.

Items required

  • Seeds (methi, mustard, greendhal) these are easy available at our homes.
  • Small container (plastic, glass, ceramic, clay, thermocol)
  • Some tissue papers or thin cotton cloth.
  • Water
  • Sunlight

Method\Process

First soak the seeds in water for eight to ten hours

Day 1, take a container, place some four layers of tissue papers, wet it. Now place the soaked seeds on the tissue paper. Let it be tightly packed but, don’t over layer it. Let it be single layer. Sprinkle some water cover it with tissue paper and seal it. Place in a dark palace.

Day 2, take it and sprinkle some water, you see some small sprouts.

Day 3, it has sprouted fully, little bigger.

Day 4, you can see some small leaves shooting up. keep in the sunlight. But in the direct sunlight.

Day 5 , after keeping in the sun the leaves starts to grow very fast.

Day 6, leaves have almost grown fully.

Day 7, time to harvest the micro greens.

Important Points.

  1. Sprinkle water two times a day. At no point water should be staging. The tissues should be just wet.
  2. If water content is more, mold fungus will grow.
  3. First two days close it and keep it in a dark place.
  4. From 3rd day keep it in the sun light for few hours(no direct sunlight). No need to cover it with tissues or seal the box. Let the leaves reach out for the sun light.
  5. You can also keep it in your kitchen counter top itself.
  6. After you harvest it, wast it thoroughly before using it for cooking.
