About Chinese New Year(CNY)
CNY is the most important Chinese holiday in China. Its is also know as “Spring Festival”. CNY is according to lunar calendar. Everyone will take a big break during CNY.
It is the time to celebrate, remember family and friends and to wish everyone happiness, peace and prosperity in the coming year. It is the time to enjoy and relax with your near and dear ones.
Houses are cleaned to get rid of the previous year’s bad luck. Then houses are decorated and lighted to make way for the good fortune.
On the eve of the “New Year” everyone will have a “Reunion Dinner” with their family members. After the dinner the elders in the family give a red envelope(with money) to the kids. Its called Hong Bao – Lucky Money.
Fireworks and firecracker are set off during CNY. Some people will play “Dragon Dance” or “Lion Dance” to celebrate CNY.
