Months of the Year

Our year is divided into 12 months. There are 365 days or 366 days in case of leap year. The calendar which we are using now is called as Gregorian Calendar.

The Gregorian calendar has 4 months that are 30 days long and 7 months that are 31 days long. February is the only month that is 28 days long in common years and 29 days long in leap years.

Months are calculated based on the moon’s orbit around the Earth. Even the word month is derived from the word moon.

Although Gregorian Calendar is the most popular and widely used calender around the word, there are some calendars like Hindu Calendar, Muslim Calendar, Buddhist Calendar, Chinese Calendar and many to calculate the holidays and festivals.
