Have you ever wondered magnets can be used for painting? Its a very simple and interesting art work. It requires very minimal items.
This STEM activity combines Science and Art to challenge Kids and understand how a magnet can move another object. Kids create paintings by sliding objects on colors spread on one side of plate with the help of magnet from another side of painting plate. This activity is full of fun and kids love playing with colors. This activity is best amalgamation of art & science.
Material Required:
- Magnet bar or wand
- Few small metals like nuts, washers and bolts
- Water or acrylic painting
- White paper or tray
Steps:
Place the paints of different colours on the paper or on the tray.
Now put some small nuts and bolts on the paper.
Try to move the magnet wand or bar below the paper or tray.
What you see? the metals are moving according to the magnetic movements, and you see the wonderful colours spread.
You can also explore it with different types of magnetic objects.
Another Version:
Take the metal items, dip in the paint, then place them on the paper and move the magnet.
What you learn?
Magnets work perfectly with, paper, water, paint and tray!
Important Notes:
- For all kids activities adult supervision is must.
- Make sure to cover the place or else it will be little messy!
- If your paint is thicker, mix it with some water.
- There is no perfect procedure or steps to do it, the end result is just what kids love to experience it.
